So far I have only blogged about restaurants that I have enjoyed, I feel I need to tell about all my experiences with wonderful food. What better way to start a new category than with my favorite dish ever? This has and most likely will always be my favorite dinner. It is my mom's recipe for spareribs.
I will lay out the recipe word-for-word, but keep in mind that I think part of what makes this dish magical is my mom's eye for picking out the raw ribs. I can't speak for how her experience helps her choose the right ribs, and trust me I have asked her. She doesn't think she has any special gift, but I do. Another key to this dish is the quantity of sauce. I believe the recipe for the sauce must be at least doubled, if not tripled. It is so good, you will want to smother your steamed rice with it! As for the steamed rice, that is key too. As my mom says, "Don't use minute rice. Take the time to do it right."
Here is the recipe verbatim:

3 lbs. country-style ribs
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 cup vinegar (apple)
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup chopped onion (or equivalent in dehydrated onion flakes)
2 tbsp. soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

"Brown ribs in large pan in oven, 425 degrees F for 45 minutes. Drain fat. Meanwhile, make the sauce, cooking until thick and glossy. Salt and pepper the ribs to taste and pour half over the ribs. Reduce oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for 30 minutes. Turn ribs, cover with remaining sauce and bake another 30 minutes. If ribs are thick or very meaty, cover with foil and continue to bake another 30 to 45 minutes for added tenderness. Double the sauce recipe for more than one cake-pan full of ribs. Best served with steamed rice and your favorite vegetable."
I don't find myself at high-end steakhouses often, but I was introduced to Del Frisco's lunch menu one day for a business meeting. I was told to not even bother looking at the menu, just to "get the burger". On their lunch menu only is the Prime Cheeseburger, which is a 10 oz. Prime Beef Burger with cheddar cheese (you can substitute Swiss or blue cheese), lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, served with french fries or skillet potato chips. The price is $13. Everything else on the menu is what I would call expensive, and is probably very tasty as well, but I'm here to tell you that this burger is the best tasting burger I have ever eaten! The prime beef itself explodes with juiciness, and has a salty-like taste to it as well, which is right up my alley. For $13 you can't excuse yourself from trying this burger if you find yourself near a Del Frisco's. Although this burger is only on the lunch menu, I have been told that you can get it any time, if you sit at the bar.

It looks like they have 9 locations, all in larger cities: Fort Worth, Houston, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Dallas, and Boston. So far I can only speak for the location in Denver. The atmosphere is nice, although higher-end, business / business casual attire., but I don't think they have set rules. I went in today in a polo and jeans and didn't get thrown out.

For the price and the taste of this burger, I give it five solid stars. I don't think it is possible to beat this burger!
Being a "nationwide" chain, I would usually not review this pizza, but it is nowhere to be found in my home state of Colorado any more. When I was a child, there used to be one in my home town of Loveland, but they went away a long time ago. Years later when I moved to Dayton, Ohio, I found one in that area. There are now two in the Dayton area.

When I was able to go back to a Godfather's Pizza after possibly 25 years, I was impressed. Their huge amounts of cheese is very tasty, almost like they add salt to it. I usually don't like a thicker crust, but I like theirs a lot. They pride themselves in a great crust. The photos below show a "Classic Combo", which includes beef, sausage, pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms, and onions. This is my favorite pizza at Godfather's. They also make gluten-free crusts for those who are interested.
One of my favorite foods when traveling to the Dayton, Ohio area is Skyline Chili. It isn't the usual chili that you would think of, it is "Cincinnati-style" chili, which doesn't usually have beans in it, but is beef and a mixture of special spices (I think there is a hint of cinnamon in there). They serve the chili as "Ways", a 3-Way being chili on top of spaghetti noodles, and a huge heap of shredded cheddar cheese on top. A 4-Way adds either diced onions or red beans. A 5-Way adds both onions and beans. They also serve the chili on top of "coneys" (small hot dogs). They add seasonal "extreme" cheese, which is habienero cheese, with quite a "kick", that I love. I usually get a regular 3-Way and a chili-cheese coney, both with "extreme" cheese if available. It is very tasty. I would recommend taking them up on the offer for a bib, as the sauce tends to get on your shirt as you eat, even if you're careful.

Skyline is based out of Cincinnati, and can be found in maybe a 100-mile radius out from there. I have heard that you can purchase Skyline chili in a can at King Soopers/ Krogers, but haven't really looked. I'm sure it isn't quite the same as the restaurant, but it's worth a try. Don't judge until you've had it at the restaurant though. I give this taste a full 5 stars!
Dayton, Ohio is home of another of my favorite pizza restaurants called Marion's Piazza. I have been to two of the eight locations around Dayton: Centerville and Beavercreek. Both were the same, with a nice "old Italian courtyard" atmosphere, and great pizza. Almost every time I go, I get their "Super Cheese" pizza, which includes pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, onions, green peppers, and "mounds of cheese". One of the unique things about Marion's is their sausage, which is more finely crumbled than usual. Their sauce is on the sweet side, and they mound their toppings from edge to edge, which I love. I can't really explain why the pizza is so good, but the picture below says it all for me.

This restaurant is a local favorite for many people, and is a popular gathering place for sports teams, families, etc. Marion's has a couple of drawbacks in my opinion, though. First, it is cash only. No credit/debit cards, or checks. The prices are a bit on the high side, a small Super Cheese being around $13. Also it is so popular, that sometimes it takes a long time to get food or to find a place to sit. I suppose that is a good testament to their quality. They do claim to have been voted Dayton's best pizza, but a few places claim the same thing. This is definitely in my top five, and a must-have when I go to Dayton. I give this pizza a solid four stars.

I know it has been a while since I posted. My travels have taken me to places recently where no blog-worthy food is available. Fortunately this week, I have a real treat! My travels have taken me back to Dayton, Ohio, where my bio explains I moved from two years ago. I didn't have many pictures from my favorite food in the Dayton area, but am here all this week. I am trying to hit all my absolute favorite places while I am here.

Yesterday for lunch I chose Donato's Pizza. This pizza chain started in Columbus, Ohio in the 1960's. It seems to be localized to Ohio, and is quite unique. This is one of my favorite Dayton area pizzas, mainly because of its "edge to edge" topping philosophy. When I'm in the mood, I like deep dish as well, but most of the time I don't prefer a lot of crust, and like my toppings more. This is the case with Donato's. They also have a couple of unique flavors that I love. Their "Founder's Favorite" is my favorite, being a total meat pizza but with the addition of banana peppers, which really add a nice taste to the sausage, ham, bacon, and pepperoni. My other favorite is just a cheese pizza. There is something special about the seasoning they add to their cheese pizza, and they use provolone cheese, which gives it a different taste than the usual mozzarella.

If you find yourself thinking about edge-to-edge toppings pizza when you are in Ohio, give Donato's a try. I would put it in my top 5 favorite pizzas.
I have been meaning to review this place for a while, but didn't have any photos until today. I guess you can know that a place is good when I eat my food before taking pictures!
I don't consider myself a big salad buff, but a friend turned me on to Fourleaf about a year ago, and it has become one of my favorite lunch spots when I am home at the office. It is a salad restaurant, where the salad chefs make your salad to order for you. There is a base menu with many different pre-determined recipes for great salads, such as Buffalo Chicken, BBQ Chicken, South Western, Steakhouse, and many others. You can always get creative and build your own creation, though. The one shown in the first photo below is a romaine and spinach mix with avocado, bacon, double steak, cheddar, tomatoes, croutons, and Italian dressing. What I like best about the salads here is that they gather all the ingredients in your bowl, then dump it all out at the end on a cutting board, and chop it all up into bite size pieces, then scoop it all into a mixing bowl and add your dressing. They mix it all up so that when they put it in the serving bowl, every bite you take has dressing on it and is full of flavor. They have a great variety of ingredients and dressings, all of which that I have tried so far are delicious. They have two sizes of bowls, small and large. A small is plenty of food for just about anyone. You always get a free freshly baked bread stick with every salad.
The location itself is a bit hard to find, and not right out in the open for all to see. Word of mouth about their delicious salads and great service has caused this to be a very busy place, though. It is always busy for lunch every day, but you get your salads quickly none the less. Finding a seat is the only hard part. If you're in the Greenwood Village area of South East Denver, you must stop by and check this place out!
Since I was in the Kansas City area trying various BBQ restaurants, a friend suggested I try Oklahoma Joe's Barbecue, that it was their favorite. I took the family for lunch, and we all split various platters so I could sample as many meats as possible. I tried their pulled pork, which I wasn't too impressed with. It wasn't very juicy or tasty by itself. I also tried the sliced turkey, which I thought was okay. It had a good flavor to it and was moist. Their brisket was better than average, though. I liked it a lot. It had a good flavor to it and was very juicy. I believe baked beans to be a staple of a BBQ meal, so I tried theirs. I wasn't too impressed. It was more like chili than BBQ beans, very thick and it lacked meat. It had a spice to it that was more like chili should have, not BBQ. The regular BBQ sauce was average, but I did like their hot BBQ sauce a lot, which they called "Night of the Living Barbecue Sauce". It had a nice kick to it and was quite tasty.
I have to say, this restaurant was not consistent to Kansas City style barbecue. It was closer to a Texas style, which I usually prefer. But this BBQ was just above average in my opinion. I probably wouldn't go again, given my other choices in the Kansas City area. It's worth trying though. The prices were average, and it was fast and friendly, a good lunch place for sure.
While in Kansas City, I was told by someone close to me, that their favorite BBQ was Smokestack. We decided to get some takeout from the one location left, of more than one that used to exist. We got the Roundup Platter for Two, which came with four meaty ribs, and our choice of three other smoked meats. We chose the brisket, the pork loin, and the turkey. The platter also came with beans, cole slaw, bread, pickles, and fries. It was a generous portion for a great price - about $27 for all of that.
I wasn't too impressed. It was average BBQ at best. The beans were tasty, Kansas City style sweet, but did have lots of meat in them. The brisket was above average, but the rest was pretty plain. I wasn't a big fan of the ribs. They were pretty dry and tough. We got a side of what I was told was their spicier sauce. I didn't think it had much of a kick at all, and the flavor wasn't anything extraordinary.
With all the other BBQ options in the Kansas City area, I wouldn't go here again. It's pretty good, but there are many better choices. I give it three stars, maybe two and a half.

After my critique of Arthur Bryant's barbecue in Kansas City, I was told there are other really good BBQ places in the Mid West. One of those places I was told is Jack Stack Barbecue. Being in the Kansas City area for family this weekend, I decided to try this out. It was actually the second time I have had Jack Stack, but I don't remember much about the first time. We got a few large portions for carry out this time. I have to say, I was really impressed this time. Kansas City BBQ is a bit different than what I am used to, being known for its sauces being tomato and molasses based, so on the sweet side. I really liked it, though. We got brisket, which was average as far as the meat taste alone. We also got the smoked pork, which I thought was amazing! The taste of the pork alone was excellent, and it was very tender and juicy. I liked Jack Stack original sauce on the meats. It didn't have very much of a "kick" like I prefer, but it was good. The beans on the side, however, were awesome! They were sweet, but very meaty with lots of pork mixed in. I say their beans are a must-try.
As for the restaurant itself, I remember dining in the first time I went here, and it was pleasant. The prices look comparable to other BBQ places. Overall, I give this BBQ four stars, and recommend it if you're in the Kansas City area. We went to the Overland Park location, but there are three others in the area.
Nearby the office in the South-East Denver area, there is a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho Saigon. I love this place. The food is great and the service is quick and friendly. I go for lunch, and make it a point to get there early because this place gets packed around noon, with a line out the door waiting to be seated. They have the usual Vietnamese menu, which has very good prices as well. Entrees are all under $10. I usually get the medium P6, which is Pho noodles in broth with steak and brisket. Sometimes I get an extra side of noodles for $1.50, which I could do without, because even a small Pho bowl is plenty of food. The meats themselves are a little bland in the Pho, but that's where the Hoisin sauce comes in. Theirs is really good, and I just pour a lot of it into the broth until it has the taste I like. They also have real fruit smoothies here, which are excellent as well. You have to specifically ask for them without tapioca if you don't want it in your smoothie, since the default is to add tapioca. The smoothie also might not be a good idea with Pho because the broth is so hot and the smoothie is so cold, my stomach always regrets the combination. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!
I was turned on to this barbecue place nearby my office recently and decided to go check it out. The reviews of this place are mostly very good, with people saying this was the best BBQ anywhere. I wouldn't go that far, but it was very, very good.
I have only been here once so far, and had their Jabo's Famous Jabo Link, which is a 1/3 pound Jabo custom Polish hot link, topped with 1/2 pound of your choice of chicken, beef brisket, or pulled pork, as well as your choice of their selection of sauces. They don't have their sauces on the table, so you have to select one. If it is your first time or need help with a sauce selection, they bring out a tray with small samples of each. You pick a choice of flavor and hotness. I tried all their flavors and thought they were all wonderful, but chose the Mango flavor, and Hot for hotness (#3 on a scale of 1 to 5). I thought Hot was a little mild for my tastes, so I will probably go a notch higher next time. I got the beef brisket for the topping meat, and was a bit disappointed.
I have had much better brisket before. I will try their pork next time.
The sauce on the brisket made it pretty good, but I tried a piece without sauce, and it was less than average. The hot link itself, however, was awesome! It wasn't too hot, but had a
really good flavor and was nice and juicy. It left me feeling nice and warm inside for the afternoon!
Between myself and the others that I dined with for lunch, we got a couple of their sides: the baked beans, and their french fries. Both were awesome! The fries were fresh and nicely battered and crisp. The beans had a distinct sweetness to them, almost like brown sugar or molasses. They were very tasty, not as spicy as I usually like, but good nonetheless.
The prices at this place are a bit steep, but average for a BBQ restaurant I suppose. The Jabo Link I got was $9 just for the sandwich, not including sides, which are around $2.50 each. I also thought it a bit odd that they offered a 5% discount if you paid cash, so we did. I won't judge, except for the food, which was worth it in my opinion.
I would not say this is the BEST barbecue ever, but it is close to the best I have had in the Denver area so far. I give it four solid stars, and recommend it if you're in the South East Denver area.
Another gem of a place I found in my travels in Texas is a Tex-Mex restaurant called Chuy's. This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, although not exactly the "authentic" Mexican style.
They start you out with chips and salsa, and upon request, their Creamy Jalapeno sauce, which is awesome! It's almost like a ranch dip, but with a kick of jalapeno. I love this dip! If they were to bottle it, I would buy it. If you sit in the seat-yourself area of the restaurant by the bar, there is a chips and salsa "bar" where you can just go up as often as you like and get your own chips and choice of salsas and dips. The ones I have seen are in what looks like the trunk of a '57 Chevy.
Their entrees are all very good from what I have had. Below you will see one of my favorites, their Baja Tacos. You can get them with fried or grilled fish or shrimp, or a combination of two. I got the combination, and although both were good, their fish was a little better than their shrimp. All the sides are very tasty as well: the rice, re-fried beans, and even their fresh tortillas. I haven't had a bad meal here.
A couple of other things I like about this place is that it has a really friendly and light atmosphere, with palm trees and a Caribbean feel to it. Also I am always pleasantly surprised by the bill. Their prices are very good, most entrees under $10. The place is always very busy because it is so popular, but they have plenty of staff when I go, so as long as you can get seated, you get good service.
I highly recommend Chuy's if you're ever near one. It looks like most of their restaurants are in Texas, but some in Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee.
Occasionally I travel to and stay in Fredericksburg, Virginia for work. Fredericksburg is a nice town to stay in, and has a lot of historic sites downtown. One of those sites is the Capital Ale House. As its name suggests, its main attraction is its beverages. I like to go there on Monday nights for dinner, though. They have a special on Mondays called Burger Night. You can get a half pound Certified Angus Beef Burger, Black Bean Burger or
Cheeseburger from 4:00pm to 1:00 am every Monday night for only $2.00 with any beverage purchase. The burger is great, and the bun is like a roll, very tasty as well. If you're ever in the area, check the place out. They have three other locations in Virginia as well.
Some of us who remember the late 1980's may remember a wave of frozen yogurt franchises that started up, most of which fizzled out, with maybe the exception of TCBY. It seems that this fad may be making a comeback. So far, none of my friends who live East of Colorado have heard of this yet, but in the Denver metro area, these franchises seem to be popping up as fast as smoothie shops were five years ago. From what I can tell, this started in California a couple of years ago. Many of these frozen yogurt shops now, however, are self-serve to add a new twist on the fun. There are several yogurt dispensers, each a different flavor. They are in pairs, so the paired flavors can be "twisted" together. They all usually have little sample cups you can use to try out the flavors. Once you have decided, you grab a paper bowl and fill it up. You can add toppings on top of the yogurt as well, some including fresh fruit. Some of the yogurts are non-fat, others are premium. Once you are finished making your dream dessert, you take the bowl to the cashier and set it on a scale. You are charged by the ounce usually. Some places are more expensive than others, some offer more flavors.
I haven't found that there is one single franchise. All the yogurt places I have been to are single franchises, but all with the same general idea. Nearby the office and home in Denver, I have been to COYO (Colorado Yogurt, Co.) on Arapahoe and Havana, which charges $0.44 an ounce; Yo Craze on Hampton and Tower in Aurora, which charges $0.39 an ounce; and Crave It on Arapahoe and Peoria, which charges $0.37 an ounce. I'm sure as these franchises continue to open up, competition will increase and we will see a more steady price. My personal favorite is Crave It but like to take the family to Yo Craze too, both of which I love because I like gummy bears with just a sprinkle of Nerds on top, as seen in the picture. Adding the cherries to this dish was a mistake, a little overkill. I recommend checking one of these places out. Just Google "yogurt" for your area and see what comes up.
I was on my way back to Waco, Texas this morning from Denver via DFW airport, where I drive the rest of the way. I have said before that I time my arrival so I can hit lunch at Rudy's or Bone Daddy's in Arlington. Today I decided to try a Cajun place in the same area called Razzoo's. My brother had it last week when he was in the area, and I asked some of the locals about it. They all said it was awesome, so I was naturally intrigued.
I read mixed reviews online, with no specific meal recommendations, so I asked my waitress for the "best thing ever" on the menu. She said her favorite was the Stuff'd Fish, which is a Tilapia filet on top of "shrimp and crap stuffing", topped with creamy crawfish butter sauce, all on a bed of rice. I got the half-order, which was plenty of food, and also because I started with some Fried Crawfish Tails, half-order of that as well. The crawfish tails were pretty good, a little heavily breaded in my opinion, and not the best I have had. The Cherry Mustard sauce they came with was pretty tasty, a little different from the usual cocktail sauce. The fries that came with the appetizer were actually really good. The spices were nice and tasty. As for the entree, I was very impressed. That was a really, really good dish. The waitress did well with her recommendation. The creamy crawfish butter sauce was awesome, tasting just like it sounds like. The shrimp and crab stuffing under the Tilapia was very good as well, and with the sauce on top, everything came together nicely. I would like to eat here again when I get the chance.
It looks like there are about fourteen of these restaurants, all but one located in Texas. The other one looks like it is in North Carolina. They have a lunch menu, which has good prices, all around $8. I ordered off the regular menu, but got half-orders of each item, and thought the price was good. Their dinner entrees are mostly under $15.
I recommend trying this place. I give it four stars with the possibility to go up later!
I discovered Rudy's BBQ over a year ago when I started having to travel to Waco, Texas a lot for work. Rudy's started around San Antonio in 1989 and the chain is a gas station, store, restaurant combo. This barbecue has fast become one of my favorites.
This is Texas-style barbecue, not Kansas City-style or Carolina-style, so it's on the spicy side, not sweet. They sell their meats by weight or in sandwiches. They have ribs, brisket (both moist and lean), pulled pork, pork loin, turkey, chop, pit ham (only at some places), and sausage. I have had every kind of meat, all of which are excellent. My favorites are their pulled pork, their turkey which is really moist, and their brisket (lean). Their sides are excellent as well, my favorites being their new potatoes (extra butter) and Rudy's beans. Their sauce is famous, and awesome. They have regular and "sissy" sauce, but I don't think their regular is very hot at all, and I love it. The ordering system is like a cafeteria, where you order your food at the register and they get it all for you, put it in a tray along with slices of bread, white or wheat, and then you take your tray to the drink station. They also have a condiment station where you can get pickles, onions, pepperoncinis, or jalapenos.
Did I mention this place has a breakfast menu? Oh man the brisket breakfast burritos with Rudy's sauce is outstanding! I posted a breakfast menu below. The other pictures are a pulled pork sandwich with a half sausage and new potatoes, 1/2 pound of turkey with a pint of Rudy's beans, and 1/2 pound of pulled pork with a half jalapeno sausage and new potatoes.
As I said before, I discovered Rudy's in Waco, Texas, but they are all over in Texas. I have since been to others, including one near Fort Worth in Arlington (which is the only one I have found "pit ham" at), and... a new one in Colorado Springs! I love that there is one so close to home now! If I had make one negative comment about Rudy's, it's that they don't offer a "sampler" platter so you can try all their meats at once, which are all amazing! I make it a point to go to Rudy's whenever I am near one. Five solid stars for this place!
Beau Jo's pizza is a unique "Colorado Style" pizza, otherwise known as a "Mountain Pie". There are eight locations, seven of them in Colorado. The original one is in Idaho Springs, up the mountains West of Denver off I-70, on the way to the ski resorts up there. I like to make a stop through Idaho Springs when I have the time, to hit Beau Jo's. I admittedly have never had any of their menu items besides the Mountain Pie, which has a very big crust and traditionally you put honey on the crust after you eat the part of the pizza with the topping on it. I'm not really a huge fan of the big crust to be honest. I need to try one of their "Prairie Pies" which supposedly have a thinner crust. The topping part of the Mountain Pie is really good, though. They use premium ingredients, whole milk cheese (which I think makes a great flavor), and a distinct spice combination in their sauce. In the pictures you will see their "Little Sicily" specialty pie, which is pretty good. The prices, however, aren't very good in my opinion. A "medium" (2 pounder) will run you $18 to $20. The Idaho Springs restaurant does have a very cool feel to it, though. It's like a big log ski lodge. I suppose you are paying for the experience. It's a good pizza, but I have had much better for much less money. I recommend this place, but have to give it only 3 stars, maybe 3 1/2 on the taste itself. If you're craving honey on this crust, though, it's really good.
Buffalo Wild Wings, or "B-dubs" is my all time favorite FRANCHISE place for wings, hands down. They have about fourteen regular sauce selections and four different dry rubs or seasonings. I'm not a huge fan of the dry rubs but they are pretty good. I usually go for the sauces, my favorite being the Parmesan Garlic, followed closely by Jammin' Jalapeno. After that I love the Mango Habanero (that's about as hot as I can take!) and the Caribbean Jerk. I always go Traditional wings. For some reason they taste so much better than the Boneless. Their potato wedges are awesome too, and I prefer ranch on the side (not a big fan of Bleu Cheese). I tried their ribs once and was not impressed at all. Most BWW have lunch specials where you can get ten Traditional wings plus fries or wedges for about $8. The location nearest where I work (on Chester Street by Park Meadows in Centennial, CO), however, does an "Unlimited Wings" M-F 11 AM to 2 PM, $9.99 for Traditional, $10.99 for Boneless. You get unlimited fries or wedges too. That usually makes for about a two-hour lunch, though, because I usually do either 18 or 24 wings (you order 6 at a time after the initial 12) plus wedges. Some places don't offer this special, and even this location stops it from time to time. When they have it, though, I put a serious dent in their profit margin for that day! The atmosphere is great too, if you like sports. They usually have numerous TVs with multiple games on. If you join their "Buffalo Circle" on their web site, each year on your anniversary of joining they send you a certificate for six free wings! I love this place!
One of my favorite places to eat when I go to Waco, Texas for work is Buzzard Billy's. It is a Cajun restaurant right off I-35 with a few crawfish choices I love. I usually start with their Cajun Popcorn, which is fried battered crawfish tails. I ask for a side of New Orleans style Remoulade sauce in addition to the regular cocktail sauce. It is awesome! My favorite entree is their Crawfish Fettuccine Alfredeaux. My second favorite when I am just craving Andouille sausage, chicken, and ham is their Mardi Gras Pasta. These dishes are to die for, and the prices here are very reasonable (everything is under $15). It looks like they have three other locations also, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska, none of which I have been to. This one in Waco is a must though!
Everyone loves Red Lobster right? I love Red Lobster, especially when they offer their Endless Shrimp special (which... they just happen to be offering right now!) for $15.99. I haven't had a bad meal here, ever. I would say it is my favorite nationwide-chain seafood restaurant. The prices can hurt a bit, though. That's why I love the Endless Shrimp special. It is what it sounds like, all you can eat. The last time I went, they had five different shrimp entree choices, my favorites in order being 1) Garlic Shrimp Scampi 2) Parmesan Shrimp 3) Hand Breaded Shrimp 4) Shrimp Linguini Alfredo 5) Sweet and Spicy Grilled Shrimp. You start out with two, then order one refill at a time. You can order your first refill when they bring you your initial two. The pictures below (that last picture got distorted somehow) show all five entrees, the scampi making two appearances that night! I also love Red Lobster's garlic cheddar biscuits they serve you while you wait!
I travel to Waco, Texas quite often for work, via DFW Airport in Fort Worth, where I drive the rest of the way. On my drive to Waco, I usually time out a lunch time arrival at Bone Daddy's House of Smoke. This place caters to men, meaning it isn't exactly family-friendly. It's like a classier version of Hooters. The food is excellent as well: Texas-style barbeque platters, sandwiches, and even salads. I wouldn't say the food is the best BBQ I have had, but it is a contender. Their pit beans are really good, as are their rolls. I haven't had a bad meat here, and their ribs are some of the better ribs I have had. I try to objectively judge the food, but I know I am biased a bit by the treatment you receive. They keep the sauce in a warmer and bring the bottle to your table warm. After your meal you get a steam towel to clean up your face and fingers. And, again, the scenery isn't bad either. There are currently four locations: Three around the Dallas/ Fort Worth area (two of which I have been to), and one in Austin (which I have been to as well). They are all equally good, but the one in Arlington is the most convenient for me during my travels. Trust me, you have to check it out (guys)!
Whenever I have to go to Fort Walton Beach, Florida for work, I always make it a point at least once to head North a few miles to Niceville, where tucked away and somewhat hard to find is a Cajun place called French Quarter Grill. The prices are a bit high, dinner plates start at around $15 and up, but it is worth every penny! These dishes are loaded with flavor! My favorite is the Seafood Nantua for $18 which is "sauteed shrimp and crawfish in a creamy corn and red pepper reduction over grilled catch and a bed of rice". The flavor combinations in this dish are just right. I also like the Crawfish Etouffee a lot. You must stop here if you're in the area!
Burger King occasionally releases the Angry Whopper for a limited time. I am a huge fan of this burger. It is like a regular Whopper, except with the addition of "angry onions", jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, bacon, and their "angry" sauce. The commercial would make you believe that it is super-hot, but I think it's pretty mild, not very "angry" at all. My forehead barely gets wet when I eat one. It is really tasty, though... one of my favorite fast-food burgers. As with any fast-food burger, however, the real thing doesn't look anything like the advertisement picture as you can see.
Clovis, New Mexico is a place I occasionally find myself in for work. Generally speaking the service at restaurants in this town is the worst you will ever experience. There are a few exceptions, though. Taqueria Jalisco is an authentic Mexican food restaurant located in downtown Clovis. I try to hit this restaurant every time I make a trip there. When the owner (I assume she is the owner) is there, the service is extraordinary. They bring you chips and some of the best salsa right away and the food is cooked fresh and very fast. I have had some lacking service when the "owner" isn't there. Every dish I have ordered there is wonderful, but especially the carnitas platter, which is fried shredded pork, served with rice, avocado, and Mexican salad. I also love the carne al pastor platter (second picture) which is similar to the carnitas platter except they marinate the carne in their red sauce, and it turns out very tasty and juicy. All their food is reasonably priced, usually platters under $10. I love this place!
