Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse

I don't find myself at high-end steakhouses often, but I was introduced to Del Frisco's lunch menu one day for a business meeting. I was told to not even bother looking at the menu, just to "get the burger". On their lunch menu only is the Prime Cheeseburger, which is a 10 oz. Prime Beef Burger with cheddar cheese (you can substitute Swiss or blue cheese), lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and pickles, served with french fries or skillet potato chips. The price is $13. Everything else on the menu is what I would call expensive, and is probably very tasty as well, but I'm here to tell you that this burger is the best tasting burger I have ever eaten! The prime beef itself explodes with juiciness, and has a salty-like taste to it as well, which is right up my alley. For $13 you can't excuse yourself from trying this burger if you find yourself near a Del Frisco's. Although this burger is only on the lunch menu, I have been told that you can get it any time, if you sit at the bar.

It looks like they have 9 locations, all in larger cities: Fort Worth, Houston, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Dallas, and Boston. So far I can only speak for the location in Denver. The atmosphere is nice, although higher-end, business / business casual attire., but I don't think they have set rules. I went in today in a polo and jeans and didn't get thrown out.

For the price and the taste of this burger, I give it five solid stars. I don't think it is possible to beat this burger!

Capital Ale House

Occasionally I travel to and stay in Fredericksburg, Virginia for work. Fredericksburg is a nice town to stay in, and has a lot of historic sites downtown. One of those sites is the Capital Ale House. As its name suggests, its main attraction is its beverages. I like to go there on Monday nights for dinner, though. They have a special on Mondays called Burger Night. You can get a half pound Certified Angus Beef Burger, Black Bean Burger or Cheeseburger from 4:00pm to 1:00 am every Monday night for only $2.00 with any beverage purchase. The burger is great, and the bun is like a roll, very tasty as well. If you're ever in the area, check the place out. They have three other locations in Virginia as well.

The Angry Whopper

Burger King occasionally releases the Angry Whopper for a limited time. I am a huge fan of this burger. It is like a regular Whopper, except with the addition of "angry onions", jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, bacon, and their "angry" sauce. The commercial would make you believe that it is super-hot, but I think it's pretty mild, not very "angry" at all. My forehead barely gets wet when I eat one. It is really tasty, though... one of my favorite fast-food burgers. As with any fast-food burger, however, the real thing doesn't look anything like the advertisement picture as you can see.

Health Camp

I have spent a lot of time in Waco, Texas for work. There aren't many good milkshake places around that I have found. There is, however, a mom-and-pop place called Health Camp (funny irony in the name) that serves good burgers, fries, and shakes. It is a legendary restaurant, has been around since the late 1940's (the condition of the building reflects that too). The shakes aren't made from real ice cream. They are the frozen-concentrate type shake, but Health Camp has many different squirt-in flavorings that make a great, unique taste. They are pretty thick too. My favorite is Cherry Chocolate Chip. The prices are reasonable, a large (32 oz) being $4.70. The burgers are really good too... similar to a Five Guys (greasy-type) burger. It's right off I-35 and Valley Mills, so if you're passing through Waco it's an easy and tasty stop.

Two years ago... Dayton, Ohio (White Castle)

I had to re-locate to Dayton, Ohio for a job in early 2008 from Colorado. I have many food experiences to share from the Dayton area, but those will have to wait.
Almost two years ago in late 2009, I was able to transfer back to the Denver, Colorado area, where I have lived since. I just wanted to share that the last meal I ate before leaving Ohio was the drive-through at White Castle. I know... if you've ever had White Castle, you either loved it or hated it. I found that most of the time men love it, women hate it. It's sort-of an acquired taste. I for one loved their sliders, but they haunt you the rest of the day. Very greasy. That's all I will say about that. Don't let this review turn you from further reading... the food will get better I promise!
